Gynecology & Obstetrics - Pediatric
Whether struggling with infection, painful periods or pregnancy, teens and children sometimes need a specialist who can provide specialized care for reproductive system issues. Kentucky Children’s Hospital has obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) doctors who are specially trained to use exams and procedures specifically designed for pediatric and adolescent patients. We provide care and comfort for patients ranging from newborns to age 21, and we offer special services to address adolescent sexual health and pregnancy.
Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology
You might think your child doesn’t need to see a gynecologist until she becomes sexually active, but there are a number of reasons why an appointment might be warranted. Children’s gynecology needs are unique, and some issues, such as congenital anomalies or pelvic pain, may require more specialized treatment than a pediatrician can offer. A first trip to the gynecologist can be nerve-wracking even for older teens, but for younger children, it can be completely terrifying. Our pediatric gynecology team at Kentucky Children’s Hospital knows how to put children — and their families — at ease while treating issues that impact the female reproductive organs.
Pediatric & Adolescent Obstetrics
A pregnant teenager has different obstetric needs than a fully grown woman, which is why we provide comprehensive care for your child’s physical and mental health during pregnancy, labor and after childbirth in our Young Parents Program.
In addition to general pregnancy and childbirth education, we also offer breastfeeding support classes with a certified lactation counselor.
For young mothers with substance use disorders, our Beyond Birth Comprehensive Recovery Center provides holistic assistance including counseling, peer support groups and treatment for substance abuse.

Why Choose Kentucky Children’s Hospital for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology & Obstetrics?
The OB-GYN needs of a child or young teenager can be very different from those of an adult, and it’s important to get specialty care from someone who is familiar not just with the physical needs of younger patients, but also with understanding the emotions they might experience as they undergo an exam, test or procedure.
Kentucky Children’s Hospital’s gynecology and obstetrics team members provide the specialized care to treat younger patients’ distinct needs.
