Playrooms and Patient Activities
Our child life specialists coordinate specialized play, educational resources and support services to help children and families adjust to illness and hospital stays. We want to make the hospital experience as easy and pleasant as possible for your family.
Playrooms
We have two patient playrooms for medically stable children who are staying at the hospital. Each playroom features a variety of activities and toys for kids of all ages.
The child life team and community volunteers staff the playrooms. These rooms offer a safe place for our young patients — a special place within the hospital free of medical care. A place where children can escape and just have fun.
Adolescent activity room
Teenagers in the hospital need a place to hang out and feel normal or socialize with other teens. Our Adolescent Activity Room offers age-appropriate activities, games and technology. Teens ages 13 and up can use the activity room if they:
- Are admitted to Kentucky Children’s Hospital
- Have approval from their medical team
Other teens and adult visitors may accompany patients in the activity room as long as they don’t have an infection or illness.
Birthdays, holidays and special events
Life events like birthdays are important when children are in the hospital. Our team provides fun celebrations to recognize birthdays, special events and holidays, as well as milestones in medical treatment.
