Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
This involves reshaping the nose. This may be done to fix breathing problems or for cosmetic reasons. The nose is made up of bone and cartilage. In some cases, bone alignment is corrected. In others, cartilage is reshaped into a better position. Cartilage grafts taken from the ear, nasal septum or rib can also be used for shape and support. Two types of techniques can be used: closed or open. The open technique is used for more extensive functional or corrective problems.
Swelling is common after surgery. Splints are often placed inside and outside the nose. Most patients get to go home the day of surgery.
