Personal Statement

I'm from a big family; I'm one of 10 children and have children of my own so there's a certain “kid-friendly” or “child-like” aspect to my personality. I really enjoy getting to know my patients. I get down at their level, look them in the eye, engage them in things they're interested in, and it's kind of fun. Part of “doctoring” is really getting the most out of patients and listening to them, and children really respond to that. I don't just focus on the parent; I focus on the child, and it really works.

I may be the luckiest orthopaedic surgeon on the planet. I have a great team. We've been able to identify people who have a passion for pediatric orthopaedics. Our focus is on what's right for that kid and that family without regard for their status or their ability to pay. I think every one of my partners is somebody I would let treat my own children.
