NOTE FROM THE
CHIEF NURSE EXECUTIVE

At UK HealthCare, we are dedicated to the highest standards of quality and safety in patient care, and the ongoing pursuit of evidence-based practice and practice improvement.

Our nurses understand the vulnerability of our patients and the privilege of sharing in their journey. Our nurses provide a healing touch, a word of hope or a listening ear.

The art and science of nursing is not performed in isolation but through collaboration – forever evolving with a commitment to lifelong learning.  Our nurses are thinking critically, acting rigorously, and continually advancing their knowledge.

To our nursing services team, thank you for bringing the ‘I will’ attitude to all that you do. You are making it happen, day-in and day-out. I am so proud to be a part of this Big Blue Nation of Nurses!

Gwen Moreland, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
Chief Nurse Executive

MEET THE NURSING LEADERSHIP TEAM

MAGNET
STATUS

UK HealthCare and Eastern State Hospital have achieved Magnet Status – the highest institutional honor awarded for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. Out of nearly 6,000 health care organizations in the United States, less than 10 percent have achieved Magnet designation.

Achieving Magnet Status is a process that culminates in a rigorous review to demonstrate the hospital's commitment to sustaining nursing excellence and improving professional practice.

The status represents a solid commitment to continuing education and nursing specialty certification, a cultural transformation of the work environment involving a shared governance model and laser focus on patient safety.

Magnet recognition, which hospitals must reapply for every four years, has become the gold standard for nursing excellence.

The recognition is based on adherence to Magnet concepts and demonstrated improvement in patient care and quality. U.S. News & World Report’s annual showcase of “America’s Best Hospitals” includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care.

In April 2021, University of Kentucky HealthCare once again achieved Magnet Status after successfully applying for re-designation.
