Cooking classes
The UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center is launching a new series of free cooking classes for anyone with type1 or type 2 diabetes, people with prediabetes, or family members of those with diabetes. These cooking classes will discuss nutritional choices as a healthy lifestyle behavior to help individuals manage their diabetes. Participants will prepare and share a delicious meal with seasonal produce and healthy proteins.
A live demonstration will feature Chef Tanya Whitehouse, program manager of the University of Kentucky Food Connection’s Learning Kitchen. The Learning Kitchen is a state-of-the-art kitchen venue on the UK campus that offers a welcoming environment for everyone interested in learning about locally sourced seasonal foods and how to enjoy them. A former sous chef for the acclaimed Holly Hill Inn in Midway, Whitehouse brings culinary expertise and a passion for Kentucky-grown foods to her programs.
