Gill Affiliate Network brings comprehensive heart care close to home
Finding the care that’s best for you is essential. When it comes to heart health, you can find great care close to home – even if your home isn't Lexington – thanks to the UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute Affiliate Network.
The affiliate network was founded in 2014 as a way to give hospitals and medical providers across the Commonwealth access to Gill’s resources in order to enhance their own cardiovascular programs. The network currently has 16 affiliates located throughout Kentucky.
“We’re helping the patient get the right care in the right place at the right time,” said Dr. Rick McClure, medical director of the network.
This partnership with community providers and hospitals gives the citizens of Kentucky and the region access to the full complement of cardiovascular care, including cardiology, vascular surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Additionally, the affiliate network makes sure that these community doctors, nurses and staff have the most up-to-date cardiovascular information so that they can provide comprehensive care.
“Educational support and training translates into a higher quality of care in the local area,” said McClure.
Working closely with local physicians and hospitals, the affiliate network helps broaden treatment options by providing access to the latest therapeutic advances, whether it’s providing a much-needed specialist in the local community, remote interpretation of a test through telemedicine or accepting the transfer of a critically ill patient at UK HealthCare in Lexington.
