Caring For Heart Patients Across Their Lifespan
Being born with congenital heart disease can lead to a lot of health challenges, but the Kentucky Adult Congenital Heart (KACH) Program at the UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute provides personalized, adult-focused care and treatment of congenital heart defects.
Led by one of the few congenital heart disease specialists in the region, our team is made up of specially trained cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, imagers, echocardiographers and electrophysiologists. Our experienced doctors are skilled in performing minimally invasive, catheter-based procedures so that patients can get back on their feet much more quickly than after traditional open-heart surgeries.
By working in close collaboration with the congenital heart specialists at Kentucky Children’s Hospital, we are able to provide a seamless continuum of care from childhood into adulthood.
Additionally, our team partners with more than 35 facilities across Kentucky and beyond to provide onsite clinics and tele-echo and tele-ECG services so that patients can access the highest quality care in their local communities.
We have extensive experience in this continually evolving treatment landscape, including heart valve repair, structural heart conditions and interventional cardiology, and we routinely collaborate with other Gill experts to choose the right treatment for unique congenital heart conditions.
“I have a special interest in strategies to fix holes in the heart, replace valves and do other procedures that we would not have been able to do 15 to 20 years ago. Now, the patient usually goes home the next day.” – Dr. Andrew Leventhal, medical director of the Adult Congenital Heart Program
