About
Dr. Yuyao Sun is a board-certified neurologist and neuromuscular specialist at the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute. Her clinical interests are amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and autoimmune neuromuscular disorders, such as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and myasthenia gravis.
She completed her neurology residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and pursued fellowship training in neuromuscular medicine at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Sun is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in both neurology and neuromuscular medicine as well as the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) in electrodiagnostic medicine.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Sun believes that empowering patients through education is key to improving outcomes and quality of life. She is committed to helping her patients better understand their diagnoses, treatment options and long-term management strategies. Through clear communication, tailored teaching and shared decision-making, she strives to create a collaborative and supportive environment where patients feel informed, respected and confident in their care.
Dr. Sun is passionate about education at every level of care. She serves as Associate Clerkship Director in the Department of Neurology at the University of Kentucky, where she is actively involved in teaching medical students. Nationally, she contributes to the advancement of medical training through her role on the Graduate Medical Education Committee of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM).
