About

Dr. Sylvia Y. Ofei is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Kentucky Children’s Hospital who treats general gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. She also researches liver diseases and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Dr. Ofei earned her undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus before receiving her medical degree from Wright State University in Dayton. She then returned to Columbus where she completed a residency in general pediatrics followed by a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Her interests in healthcare finance and the operations of a healthcare system inspired her to earn her Master of Public Health (MPH), with a focus on Health Services, Management and Policy.

In August 2016, Dr. Ofei joined UK HealthCare as an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Dr. Ofei is also passionate about educating community members from underserved backgrounds and motivating youth to pursue their career goals.
