Sheila P. Sanders, MD

Before I entered medical school, I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Vanderbilt. I believe my nursing background makes me a better doctor. I strive to get to know my patients and address individual concerns. Communication is key. As much as I like spending time with patients, my favorite days are spent in the operating room, because I like to fix things.

Outside medicine, I love spending time with my family. We often travel to Montana or the beach. I am a proud founder of the Tri For Sight triathlon, and I especially enjoy swimming.

  Dr. Sanders always patiently answers my questions. I do wish that she would take a minute or two to summarize the visit and discuss next steps. Something like.....I'm pleased/not pleased with your progress. In your case, I would expect X Y Z in this time frame. Complicating factors in your case are X Y Z. I will see you back in X weeks/months and this is what I hope to see.

  Dr. Sheila Sanders is about the best doctor I've ever had. Even my husband adores her and describes her as a doll. She did a great job on my glaucoma surgery (4-23-2023). The other day, to my great surprise, I got a call from her about 8 p.m. in the evening. She was working from home and had a question about refilling my prescriptions. I have virtually NEVER had a doctor call me at home, let alone a SURGEON and head of a department. Wow! I am so impressed! and here she apologized to ME for the lateness of the hour!
