About

Dr. John Franklin is a native of Western Kentucky and obtained his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Louisville. He continued at UofL for both his medical degree and residency training in ophthalmology, then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Franklin has a special interest in treating pediatric glaucoma, and for the past few years has been the only pediatric ophthalmologist in the state to treat this condition. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

His wife, Dr. Lucy Eakle Franklin, also works at UK HealthCare in comprehensive ophthalmology. They have two young daughters.

    Scores of 3 are being kind because the other assisting staff were not as concerned it seemed about us. The score of 4 was for Dr. Franklin because he actually showed some concern and care and spoke to us, made sure he made eye contact when speaking to me, mom. Tried to ease, comfort, felt friendly. Especially after waiting nearly an hour.

    I felt like I had to lead the appointment. For example I asked if there would be drops, patching, etc- because he seemed to think there wasn't much to tell us. Appointment seemed like it could have been a 10-15 minute appt and he was done telling me things in 5. He's super sweet and seems like he knows his stuff and is an expert, but maybe he was having an off day.

    We absolutely love Dr Franklin. He is a great doctor. My daughter thinks he is the coolest guy and we can all tell he is very smart. I recommend him to any parent whose child has eye trouble.

      The main eye doctor saw him for maybe 5-10 minutes and said he needed surgery. He explained that they would have to do more of an exam after sedation since it was harder to examine my son with him having a meltdown.

      Dr. Franklin was probably one of the best doctors I have ever seen. His attention to detail was perfect. He really listened to what you had to say, he explained everything thoroughly. He is the best bedside manner. I can't speak any higher about the level of care Dr. Franklin gave. He was really awesome.
