About
Heidi Frazier is dual board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics. She practices primary care for anyone from newborns to the elderly. After graduating the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Frazier went on to complete her internal medicine and pediatrics residency at the University of Kentucky. During her four years of residency, she grew to love the Bluegrass State and UK, so she decided to stay on as clinical faculty.
Personal statement
I first became exposed to internal medicine-pediatrics after my first year of medical school when I shadowed a med-peds physician who became one of my role models. Her ability to treat such a wide variety of people and diseases was intriguing.
I love being able to care for patients of all ages and enjoy the relationships I make with patients and families. I like the challenges of chronic-disease management and coordinating care with subspecialists. One aspect of primary care that is essential is treating the whole patient and not just the disease, so I take into account the social, spiritual and psychological aspects of treatment. It's also important to identify the goals of the patient so that we can work together.
One of my mentors during medical school shared with me quotes from Sir William Osler, who helped create the first medical residency programs. These quotes have shaped my philosophy on patient care: “Listen to your patient; he is telling you the diagnosis.” “Care more for the individual patient than for the special features of the disease … Put yourself in his place … The kindly word, the cheerful greeting, the sympathetic look - these the patient understands.”
