Dr. David Sloan graduated from medical school at McGill University in Montreal in 1977 and completed a residency in general surgery at McGill University in 1984. His training included a master’s degree in experimental surgery and a fellowship in endocrine surgery at the Royal Northshore Hospital in Sydney, Australia with Professor T.S. Reeve. Sloan is board certified in general surgery in both Canada and the United States.

After two years on the surgical faculty of McGill University, he spent three years at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, completing fellowships in surgical oncology and head and neck surgery. He has been at the University of Kentucky since 1990 and holds the Warren H. Proudfoot Professorship of Surgical Oncology. He is a member of numerous surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Head and Neck Society and the Southern Surgical Association.

Ten years ago, Sloan limited his practice to thyroid and parathyroid surgery and currently is head of the Section of Endocrine Surgery at UK.
