About

After completing training in General Surgery, Dr. Martin completed a fellowship in Transplantation at the Starzl Transplantation Institute at the University of Pittsburgh and a fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Prior to joining UK, she practiced general pediatric and transplant surgery at Duke University then later at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware.

While at Nemours she championed the development of the Nemours Intestinal Failure Team (NIFTy), a multidisciplinary group of caregivers who provide comprehensive intestinal failure care for patients and their families from the neonatal intensive care unit through adolescence. While surgical director of the program, the team developed into a medical home for these patients that became a regional referral center.

Dr. Martin remains active in multiple national and international societies that address issues related to pediatric surgery, pediatric oncology, and intestinal failure. She has a strong interest in the intersection of liberal arts with the practice of medicine, having completed a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies while at Duke University. In addition, she has an interest in Medical Ethics, having served as a member of the Ethics committee and consult service while at Nemours.

Dr. Martin joined UK in March, 2023. In addition to her work as a General Pediatric Surgeon, she is developing a program to provide comprehensive care to children with intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome.
