UK Aesthetics Center now open at Turfland

Megan McNeil, APRN

The UK HealthCare Aesthetics Center is the premier choice in Central Kentucky for patients looking to enhance their appearance and self-esteem.

Our top-notch team boasts more than 100 years of combined experience and takes a modern approach to aesthetic surgery, offering a wide range of advanced procedures performed with the fewest and smallest incisions possible.

Housed in one convenient location on the UK HealthCare - Turfland campus at 2195 Harrodsburg Road, the UK HealthCare Aesthetics Center provides numerous services for the body and face along with non-surgical enhancements like skin care, fillers and Botox.

Dr. David Drake — chief of plastic surgery — recently spoke about the services offered at the UK HealthCare Aesthetics Center along with Dr. Amit Patel, facial and reconstructive surgeon at UK HealthCare, and aesthetic medicine specialist Megan McNeil

What services are offered at the UK HealthCare Aesthetics Center?

McNeil: We offer a whole range of services from basic through the advanced. We're going to be able to offer skin care, lasers, facials and micro-needling. We also offer injectables like neurotoxins and filler. We can also connect patients who need surgery with our staff surgeons. There's something for everybody, from those just starting out to those who may be ready to take the next step in the surgery.

Patel: One of the things that's really nice about the center is our multidisciplinary approach. We have providers, surgeons and nurse practitioners with a variety of different backgrounds in terms of aesthetic focus. I'm a facial plastic surgeon board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery. We also have surgeons that are board-certified plastic surgeons. I always use the phrase, ‘teamwork makes the dream work.’

What’s unique about the center’s new location on the Turfland campus?

McNeil: I'm very excited to move into the new building. It's fresh, it's new. Everything is open and light. There's plenty of parking. You can get here easily from not just Lexington, but all the surrounding areas as well.

I think patients are going to love it here. Parking is right outside and patients can preserve their anonymity. It’s often important for patients after you've had a procedure to be able to go straight from your car up to the clinic. Plus, the surgical center is right next door so everything is in a central location , which makes things easier.

Drake: We're bringing the disciplines of cosmetic plastic surgery together with the discipline of facial plastic surgery. We're combining different specialties that treat the same types of conditions, but we're expanding our practice.

What type of patients are good candidates for your procedures?

Patel: One of the things that's exciting about being in the world of aesthetic health right now is the amount of innovation that's going on.

McNeil: I think aesthetics is for everybody — young, old, men and women — everybody can take advantage of it. Skin care is very important, so everyone can take advantage of that.

But there's also so many other routes you can go if you want to just be a little bit refreshed or look a little bit younger. We're all sitting in front of a camera right now on Zoom looking at ourselves so much more. I think people are really taking notice of that and a lot are ready to start putting a little bit of an investment into themselves.

Patel: Experience is fundamental to good results and our providers have a ton of experience layered with teamwork. We take care of a lot of patients that have had traumas like cancer reconstruction, which really pushes the imagination of surgeons.

We take a team approach to aesthetic care and it really creates a whole new synergy. Then, you sprinkle on a beautiful space that inspires, and it's a good place to be.
