New chair of UK Department of Oral Health Practice announced

Dr. Robert Frazer

Dr. Robert Frazer has been named chair of the Department of Oral Health Practice in the UK College of Dentistry. Frazer, who is also an associate professor of restorative dentistry, served as interim chair of the department since May 2017.

“I am excited to be leading the department at a time of rapid innovation, growth and economic opportunities," said Frazer. "One of my roles is to mentor faculty to progress through their careers and achieve success in their chosen career path, be it in education, research or administration. Equally, the curriculum must continue to evolve to produce the best-trained graduates in the country. We are modernizing our facilities and investing in digital dentistry, making sure our students have a top-notch educational experience with the latest equipment and evidence-based techniques.”

Before joining the faculty at UK, Frazer served in the United States Air Force for more than 21 years and worked as a general dentist for 10 years prior to specializing in prosthodontics, which is the branch of dentistry that focuses on artificial replacements for teeth. From 2009 to 2017, Frazer served as the division chief of Restorative Dentistry at UK.

Frazer received his doctorate in dental surgery from the University of Colorado and completed a general practice residency in the U.S. Air Force and a prosthodontic residency at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

Frazer is currently the course director for a preclinical removable prosthodontic course and participates in student clinical instruction.
