Listen: This is how Markey inspires the next generation of oncologists
Throughout the month of May – Cancer Research Awareness Month – the Talking FACS podcast will discuss a wide array of subjects revolving around cancer – from prevention to research to community outreach.
In this week's episode of the Cancer Conversations series, Nathan Vanderford, PhD, a researcher in the Department of Toxicology & Cancer Biology at the UK Markey Cancer Center, discusses a topic he is particularly passionate about: training and educating the next generation of oncologists and researchers. Vanderford is able to share this passion through his role as the director of the Markey Cancer Center Appalachian Career Training in Oncology (ACTION) Program, which offers Appalachian Kentucky high school and undergraduate students enrolled at UK the opportunity to gain cancer research, clinical, outreach and education experiences that will enrich their interest in pursuing a cancer-focused career.
