Barnstable Brown family honored for dedication to UK
The Barnstable Brown family is well-known for a long list of accomplishments and accolades, as well as a long-standing connection to UK. Twins Patricia and Priscilla are former UK cheerleaders, and their father, Dale, had an outstanding college basketball career and played an integral role in UK basketball’s first two championship wins. In recent years, proceeds from the annual star-studded Barnstable Brown Derby Eve Gala, considered the hottest ticket in town during Kentucky Derby season, has raised over $15 million for diabetes education and research at UK HealthCare’s nationally-ranked diabetes center, which is named in their honor.
The UK All-American Award
Now, the Barnstable Browns can add another achievement to this list: On Oct. 22, the family, including Tricia, Priscilla and their mother, Willie Barnstable, were presented with the prestigious UK All-American Award. This rare honor is presented by the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club in recognition of individuals from the Louisville area who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and support to the university.
Tricia Barnstable Brown accepted the award on behalf of the family.
“We are truly humbled to receive such a distinguished award,” said Patricia Barnstable Brown. “It is a great privilege to be recognized with such a prestigious honor and share this with our gala’s supporters.”
Mike Anderson, senior vice president of operations for Churchill Downs and president of the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club, presented the award.
“The Barnstable Brown family brings a national spotlight to the city of Louisville, the University of Kentucky and the importance of diabetes research every year with their Derby Eve Gala,” said Anderson. "We are proud to honor this amazing family who shines as outstanding UK alumni and understands the importance of giving back.”
