Specialized services
Your treatment options include a range of advanced programs and technology, state-of-the-art equipment and careful monitoring and assessment. Specialized services and technologies we offer include:
- AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill for Gait Training: Our unweighting treadmill supports your body weight when you’re injured, reducing the strain on your muscles and bones.
- Aquatic therapy: Aquatic therapy can reduce stiffness and increase your mobility. We have three therapy pools, two of them heated, for orthopedic and neurological patients. These pools have electric lifts and are wheelchair accessible.
- Dry needling: This technique can relieve pain, improve motion and increase function.
- Functional electrical stimulation bike: Our functional electrical stimulation bike helps people with arm or leg weakness. By using the bike, patients can improve muscle strength through a combination of electrical stimulation and active assistance.
- Mobility exoskeletons: Exoskeletons can help people who are paralyzed to walk again. Patients are trained to use these devices at our facility. Once you learn to use an exoskeleton, you can take the device home and use it in your everyday activities.
- Parkinson’s Disease Program: This comprehensive program offers yearly monitoring for people recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Our occupational, speech and physical therapists will assess you and recommend therapy when it’s needed. They’ll also offer specific exercises to help you in your daily life.
- Seating and Mobility Clinic: We assess your mobility needs to see if you need a manual wheelchair, scooter or power wheelchair. We have as many as 30 wheelchair options onsite for you to test. Our adaptive seating specialist will help you find the right equipment for your needs.
- Bioness electrical stimulation: Our physical and occupational therapists use Bioness electrical stimulation devices to retrain walking and hand function. These systems help activate weak muscles in your legs or arms so you can perform desired activities. You may also be evaluated for a home unit. We also use the Bioness Integrated Therapy System software programs to assess and help people with problems with cognition, vision, movement and balance. This system can improve independence with daily activities, including returning to work and driving.
- Swallow study: We use the fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) test to diagnose swallowing problems. The test involves inserting a thin, flexible tube through your nose.
- Virtual reality: Virtual reality is a fun and interactive way to relearn activities. We use it to help reintroduce movements and activities patients are struggling with, including showering, standing, reaching and stepping.
- Vestibular rehabilitation: Evaluation using video Frenzel Goggles will be completed to allow the clinician to see and record eye movements that are often suppressed in room lighting for more accurate assessments. Additional equipment such as the Computerized Dynamic Visual Acuity Test allows for more detailed assessment of gaze stability, which is responsible for clear vision during head motion. Sensory organization testing using our force plate system allows for accurate assessment of the body's ability to maintain balance in different sensory conditions. In addition to developing individualized home programs, we utilize the BITS Balance system for balance training with the addition of visual stimuli and cognitive tasks. We also utilize the Zero G in balance training to enhance safety and confidence with higher level tasks.
- ZeroG Gait and Balance System: The ZeroG Gait and Balance System is a dynamic robotic system. It uses an overhead track and body weight support system to help people safely practice walking, balance and other mobility skills. We’re the only facility in the world with a system that has 110 feet of track and three mounted ceiling robots.
