Types of Weight Loss Surgery

Our surgeons perform laparoscopic weight loss surgery. During laparoscopic surgery, we use multiple small incisions to perform the procedure.

Most patients typically stay in the hospital for only one or two nights. Laparoscopic surgery helps get you back to work and daily activities much faster than traditional surgery.

Weight Loss Surgery Options

Our experts will give you the information you need to choose the option that’s right for you. The laparoscopic surgeries we offer are:

  • Gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y): We create a small pouch in the upper part of the stomach. Food goes from the pouch to the small intestine, bypassing most of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. This small pouch reduces the amount of food you can eat, as well as the amount of nutrients your body absorbs.
  • Sleeve gastrectomy: We remove about 75 percent of the stomach, leaving a small tube or “sleeve” the size of a banana. A smaller stomach reduces the amount of food you eat and causes hormonal changes that help with weight loss.
  • Weight loss revision surgery: During this procedure, we convert a lap band to either a gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy. We can perform weight loss revision surgery (also called lap band conversion) during a lap band removal or during a separate procedure at a later date.
